Questions homeowners ask us

These are the questions that come up on nearly every call and estimate. If yours is not here, call or text 631-404-9022 and ask David directly.

The questions, answered

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. David comes out, looks at the roof or the room, and writes up the estimate at no charge and with no obligation. The number is in writing.

Who am I actually talking to?

David Taylor, the owner. Every call goes straight to him. He handles the estimate and the schedule, and the work is done by the company's own crew. Nothing is subcontracted.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family roofs are one day for a full crew: tear-off in the morning, new roof closed up the same day. A very large or steep roof can run into a second day. The house stays wrapped in tarps until the lawn has been swept for nails.

Do you tear off the old roof or go over it?

We tear off, down to the plywood, every time. It is the only way to check the deck, it keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid, and a second layer traps heat and hides problems.

Who pulls the permit?

We do, wherever the town requires one, and it is included in the price. We work in the Towns of Brookhaven, Smithtown, Islip, Huntington, Babylon, Hempstead, Oyster Bay and North Hempstead, each with its own rules.

What does GAF Master Elite mean for me?

GAF gives the status to fewer than 3 percent of roofing contractors, based on licensing, insurance, training and installations that pass its inspections. For you it means access to GAF's strongest warranties, up to 50 years, including the Golden Pledge on qualifying roofs. See the warranty page.

What shingles do you install?

GAF architectural shingles as a full GAF system: leak barrier, roof deck protection, starter strips, ridge cap and ventilation from the same manufacturer. That is what the enhanced warranties require.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, for qualifying projects. David explains the options at the estimate; approval is up to the lender. See the financing page.

My roof is leaking right now. What do I do?

Call 631-404-9022. Active leaks go ahead of scheduled estimates. We get a tarp or a temporary patch on to stop the damage, photograph everything, and come back with a written plan for the permanent fix. See emergency roof repair.

Will you work with my insurance company?

We photograph the damage and its cause, including the inside, and write a scope with measurements, which is what an adjuster needs to approve the work. The claim itself is between you and your insurer; we make it easy to file.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Suffolk County Home Improvement License HI-64134, Nassau County Home Improvement License 196461, and New York City Home Improvement Contractor License 2114459-DCA. Fully insured, and BBB accredited with an A+ rating.

Where do you work?

All of Suffolk and Nassau County from our shop at 70 Riviera Drive in Selden. The service areas page lists every town with its own page and how far it is from the shop.
