Siding installation and repair that keeps the water out first
New siding changes how a house looks from the street. Weather comes first. We replace rotted sheathing, wrap the house and flash every window and door before hanging the vinyl or fiber-cement panels. That order keeps the finished exterior looking right and the walls dry through Long Island winters and coastal storms.

What's included
- Vinyl and fiber-cement siding in a wide range of colors and profiles
- Removal and disposal of old siding, and replacement of rotted sheathing
- House wrap and flashing tape at every opening, with rigid insulation where wanted
- Trim, corner boards, J-channel, surrounds for windows and doors
- Soffit, fascia, vented soffit panels and gutters
- Partial repairs and storm-damage replacement, matched to the existing siding
- Color and style consultation with samples on site
Siding is a weather barrier first and a finish second. Most failures we're called to fix come from what's behind the panels: missing house wrap or windows left unflashed. Sometimes someone has covered over rotted sheathing. We open the wall, fix what's underneath and build the layers in the right order.

How a siding job goes
Walk-around and samples
We check the existing siding and trim and probe the sheathing for soft spots. We bring color and profile samples for you to hold against the roof and windows in real light.
Written scope
Material and color, trim details, whether the soffit and fascia and gutters are included, and how rotted sheathing will be handled and priced.
Strip and inspect
Old siding comes off so we can inspect the sheathing. We replace rotted plywood or boards. This is when hidden problems get fixed instead of covered.
Wrap and flash
House wrap goes on shingle-style, with the seams taped. Every window and door gets flashing tape and a drip cap. Rigid foam insulation goes on here if it's part of the job.
Trim, then siding
Corner boards, J-channel and window surrounds go on before the panels. We hang the panels loose enough to expand and nail them at the manufacturer's spacing. Fiber cement is cut outside and blind-nailed.
Soffit, fascia, gutters, clean-up
Vented soffit for attic airflow, plus new fascia and gutters if included. Then a full clean-up and a walk-around with you.

What affects the cost
Siding is priced by wall area and the condition of what's behind it. The biggest factors in the estimate:
- Total wall area and how many stories. Second-story work needs staging.
- Material: standard vinyl, insulated vinyl or fiber cement, in that order of cost.
- Sheathing repairs. We won't know the full extent until the old siding is off.
- Number of windows, doors and corners. Each one is trimmed and flashed individually.
- Whether the soffit and fascia and gutters get replaced at the same time. That's the cheapest time to do it.
- Removal and disposal of old siding, especially multiple layers or asbestos-era shingles that need special handling.

Siding questions
Should I choose vinyl or fiber-cement siding?
Vinyl costs less and needs no painting. It's fine for most homes. Fiber cement costs more up front and needs repainting every 10 to 15 years. It looks like real wood and won't melt near a grill or a neighbor's fire. It also adds more to resale on higher-value homes. We install both and will price each for you.
Can you replace just the damaged section of siding?
Yes, if the existing siding is still made in a matching profile and color. Sun-faded vinyl rarely matches new panels exactly. On a visible wall, we sometimes re-side that whole side of the house and use the good salvaged panels for repairs on less visible sides.
Do you replace the wood under the siding?
Always, when it's rotted. Covering soft sheathing with new siding is the most common shortcut in the trade. It's why we find wet walls behind ten-year-old vinyl. We price sheathing replacement per sheet in the estimate so there are no surprises.
How long does new siding take?
A typical Long Island cape or ranch takes three to five working days, including trim and clean-up. A two-story colonial with fiber cement, new soffit and gutters can take a week to ten days.
