Freeport is a South Shore village in the Town of Hempstead, about 32 miles west of our shop in Selden. L.I. What we do in Freeport

Selden is 32 miles away, so a Freeport estimate usually happens within a day or two of your call. Repairs get the same free written estimate as a full replacement, and after storm damage we photograph everything and write a scope you can hand to your insurance adjuster. Every roof is installed to GAF's specification, which is what keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid. Our own crew does the work, and every call about your job goes straight to David, the owner.

What Freeport roofs are up against

Canals and salt air

South Freeport is cut by canals, including Woodcleft Canal along the Nautical Mile, and the bay is at the end of the street. Salt air corrodes flashing, vents and exposed fasteners faster than it does inland. On a re-roof near the water we replace the metal instead of reusing it.

Flood zone and raised houses

Hurricane Sandy flooded most of Freeport south of Merrick Road in 2012, and a number of houses have since been raised above flood level. A raised house puts the roof higher into the wind. Edge shingles, ridge caps and starter strip need to be done by the book on those roofs.

Victorian and early 1900s homes

Freeport has Victorian houses and many more from the early 1900s. Their roofs tend to be steep and cut up, with turrets, dormers, valleys and porch roofs. Low-slope porch and bay sections cannot be shingled properly and get a flat-roof membrane tied into the main roof.

Village permits and Nassau license

The Village of Freeport, ZIP 11520, has its own building department, and its permit rules can differ from the surrounding Town of Hempstead. We are licensed in Nassau County (196461). Where the work requires a permit, we pull it and it is included in the price.

Freeport roofing questions

Are you licensed to work in Freeport?

Yes. Freeport is in Nassau County, and we hold Nassau County Home Improvement License 196461, along with Suffolk County and New York City licenses.

Shingles blew off in a storm. What should I do?

Call 631-404-9022. Every call goes straight to David, the owner. If water is getting in, see emergency roof repair. If the rest of the roof is sound, missing shingles can usually be repaired.

Does a roof near the water need different materials?

The shingles are the same GAF systems we install everywhere, backed by warranties of up to 50 years. What changes is the attention to edges, fasteners and metal, because wind and salt find the weak spots first.
