What we do in Smithtown

Selden is 9 miles away, so a Smithtown estimate usually happens within a day or two of your call. Repairs get the same free written estimate as a full replacement, and after storm damage we photograph everything and write a scope you can hand to your insurance adjuster. Every roof is installed to GAF's specification, which is what keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid. Our own crew does the work, and every call about your job goes straight to David, the owner.

Roofing in the Town of Smithtown

One town, several hamlets

The Town of Smithtown takes in the hamlets of Smithtown, Kings Park, St. James and Nesconset, along with parts of Commack and Hauppauge. The Smithtown hamlet itself uses ZIP 11787. Houses range from very old ones near Main Street to later ranches, splits and colonials on larger lots.

Older houses near Main Street

The east end of Main Street runs through the Village of the Branch, whose historic district includes houses built as early as about 1700. Old houses have board sheathing, brick chimneys and roof lines that changed with each addition. We tear off to the deck, replace boards that have gone soft and fit new flashing at every chimney and wall.

Wooded lots and the Nissequogue

The Nissequogue River runs north through the town to Long Island Sound, and much of the land around it is wooded. Shaded roofs dry slowly, so moss, algae streaks and clogged valleys are common. We recommend GAF shingles with algae protection and balanced soffit and ridge ventilation, and we check for limb damage after storms.

Permits: town or village

Most addresses fall under the Town of Smithtown Building Department. The Village of the Branch, Nissequogue and Head of the Harbor are incorporated villages with their own building departments, and their permit rules can differ from the town's. We confirm which office applies and pull the permit where one is required.

Smithtown roofing questions

My house is in one of the villages. Does that change anything?

It can. Each village has its own building department, and the Village of the Branch also has a historic district. We check with the village before the job is scheduled, and any permit we pull is included in the price.

A branch came down on my roof. What should I do?

Call 631-404-9022. If water is getting in, the opening needs to be covered first, and our emergency roof repair page explains how that works. After that we price the repair, or a replacement if the damage is wide.

Do you travel to Smithtown from Selden?

Yes. It is about 9 miles from our shop, and our own in-house crew does the work. Every call goes straight to David, the owner.

Reviews from across Long Island

Dave was prompt, reliable, affordable and the work was perfect. I had a shed roof installed and the next day e had a torrential rain and wind storm that tested his work. Shed rood was in tact and the shed was bone dry. I would recommend LI Taylor Construction for any of your construction needs.
I had a fantastic experience with David who owns the company. They arrived right on time, quickly found the source of my roof leak, and explained the repair process clearly. The work was done efficiently at a fair price, and they left my yard completely clean of debris. Highly recommended!
